Since Thursday of last week this currency pair has shown upwards momentum, producing fast prices and intraday drama as the broad Forex market has reacted to nervous global market conditions in a correlated manner. As Monday’s trading has begun additional risk averse sentiment has been demonstrated early and financial institutions while looking to create tranquility may find they cause greater anxiety for retail speculators as stuttering values produce choppy conditions. Speculators in the USD/MXN currency pair cannot count on easier technical or fundamental clarity in the short or near-term.

USD/MXN Rebounds from Recent Lows as Risk Sentiment Shifts

While psychological barometers in the USD/MXN remain a challenging baseline for day traders and large players alike, current trading in the currency pair has mirrored the broad Forex market that doesn’t seem particularly convinced about which direction to take. This has created three days of price levels that continue to need patience to try and take advantage of moves that have occasionally demonstrated velocity but have not escaped known realms.

The USD/MXN remains in the lower part of its long-term range after having moved within lower values in the middle of last week that tested late May 2024 terrain. The slight reversals higher produced since then remain technically intriguing but are now open to suspicions that some may believe the currency pair had been oversold. The upwards traction seen the past few days are likely creating difficult questions as financial institutions try to gauge the developing circumstances in the Middle East, notions about inflation, and what the U.S Federal Reserve will do this Wednesday.

USD/MXN Tests 17.00 as Oil and Fed Expectations Drive Choppy Trade

The 17.0000 handle is seeing sustained trading tests. The ability of the USD/MXN to stay slightly above this mark as unknowns swirl regarding the Middle East Crude Oil supply and problems this could cause globally have thus far been handled rather politely by the global markets. That could change. The price of WTI Crude Oil remains above $100.00 and went above $103.00 in the cash market earlier today before reversing slightly lower. Inflation concerns and what effects this will have on the interest rate decision of the U.S Federal Reserve this Wednesday are important. The USD/MXN is near 17.02250 as of this writing.

Many analysts believe the Fed will increase the Federal Funds Rate by 0.25 percent, but because of Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s refusal to offer clear guidance, this is not a sure thing. Which means the USD/MXN may reflect the lack of clarity by producing choppy conditions into Wednesday. The dilemma for day traders is to try and figure out how many financial institutions have already traded in the USD/MXN with the perception that an interest rate will occur. Because of this day traders will have to be exceedingly cautious as risk events including the current Middle East situation and Fed await more definition regarding clarity.

USD/MXN Resistance Levels Come into Focus Above 17.02

Reversals may be sought by day traders with the belief the USD/MXN will resume its bearish trajectory that has been dominant since April of this year but concerns regarding U.S interest rates certainly cast a shadow. The upwards momentum seen since Wednesday and Thursday’s lows which challenged the 16.87000 vicinity may be a signal that near-term positions remain cautious and financial institutions are done leaning too heavily into selling notions. Resistance levels above should be looked at and if the 17.02000 level sees adequate and sustained values above, this could indicate further tests upwards could be exhibited. The currency pair is now testing marks it traversed on the 3rd of September, on the 28th of August the USD/MXN went above the 17.05000 ratio.

Why USD/MXN Direction May Remain Unclear Before the Fed

The broad markets remain rather tentative and Forex including the USD/MXN have also offered traders rather unstable footing regarding clear momentum. Technical traders may have the advantage over the next couple of days, but if risk averse conditions remain ripe because of developing news from the Iranian conflict, this could spur on additional price velocity that may anticipate a more aggressive U.S Federal Reserve. However, speculators betting on a clearly defined path will have none until later Wednesday, and even after the FOMC announcement - financial institutions may remain cautious.

USD/MXN Volatility Keeps Short-Term Trading Conditions Difficult

The USD/MXN is likely to remain troublesome leading into the Fed’s policy announcement on Wednesday. Day traders should remain fixated on fast trading results that are not overly leveraged, this to bypass price velocity which is certain to be seen when financial institutions react to the ongoing saga of developments between Iran and the U.S, and now the residual escalation being seen in Saudi Arabia. The USD/MXN needs to be treated carefully.

USD/MXN Short Term Outlook:

Current Resistance: 17.03400

Current Support: 17.01100

High Target: 17.06200

Low Target: 16.99400
